You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday?

Kaufman Center is participating in the first annual #GivingTuesday on November 27, 2012. #GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations. You can participate by giving a gift to Kaufman Center this holiday season to help support our exceptional music education and performance programs.

Here are some gift ideas:

  • $11 buys a pack of strings for an electric guitar, as called for in Steve Reich’s “Triple Quartet” which will be performed by Face the Music and JACK Quartet this season.

  • $17 buys a pitch pipe for performing a cappella works at the SMS Winter Choral Concert on December 19.

  • $28 buys a set of violin strings for a Special Music School student in the Play-a-thon at the Union Square Barnes and Noble next spring.

  • $35 buys a box of clarinet reeds for a performance of “Nach-Ruf … ent-gleitend” by contemporary composer George Friedrich Haas by the Argento Ensemble in February at Merkin Concert Hall.

  • $40 buys Latin-style bongos, as featured in the Musica de Camara Orchestra, which will perform music from Latin America at Merkin Concert Hall on November 20.
  • $42 buys a harmon mute for a young trumpet player studying jazz at Lucy Moses School.

  • $61 buys a music stand for a practice room at the new Special Music School High School.

  • $99 buys a handheld microphone for an up-and-coming singer appearing on the Broadway Close-Up series.
