Musical Evenings Benefiting Special Music School

Our Musical Evening Series offers an incredible opportunity to experience intimate recitals by world-class musicians in support of the Center's Special Music School - New York City's only K-12 public school to include music as a part of the core curriculum. These events take place in beautiful, private homes throughout New York City, where the hosts generously underwrite the cost of the event - meaning 100% of  ticket sales and donations help to provide intensive conservatory-prep training free-of-charge to our extraordinary young Special Music School students.

The 2016-17 series was particularly special as SMS celebrates its 20th anniversary, and gears up for the graduation of its first-ever senior class in June 2017! This season featured two immensely successful events featuring the Juilliard String Quartet in November and violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins with pianist Craig Ketter in April.

Keep an eye on this page for updates on the 2017-2018 Musical Evening Series, to be announced soon!

KELLY HALL-TOMPKINS

Our spring event in the Musical Evening Series featured violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins with pianist Craig Ketter. The "versatile violinist who makes the music come alive” with her “tonal mastery”  and “searing intensity”, Ms. Hall-Tompkins recently starred as the “Fiddler,” violin soloist, for the Broadway production of “Fiddler on the Roof.” The New York Times hailed Ms. Hall-Tompkins in a feature article as holding the title role, together with dancer Jesse Kovarsky. Ms. Hall-Tompkins was awarded the 2017 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, presented by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
