Musical Evenings Benefitting Special Music School

Our Musical Evening Series offers an incredible opportunity to experience intimate recitals by world-class musicians in support of the Center's Special Music School - New York City's only K-12 public school to include music as a part of the core curriculum. These events take place in beautiful, private homes throughout New York City, where the hosts generously underwrite the cost of the event - meaning 100% of ticket sales and donations help to provide intensive conservatory-prep training free-of-charge to our extraordinary young Special Music School students.

ALESSIO BAX & LUCILLE CHUNG

Our second Musical Evening featured renowned pianists Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung. Bax and Chung, a musical power couple, are both in high demand as soloists with orchestras around the world. When their schedules allow, this team of husband and wife come together to play great four-hand piano repertoire.

Guests were treated to an exquisite recital from Bax and Chung as well as a phenomenal performance from Special Music School 5th grader Philina Zhang. The evening also featured a presentation of artwork by Makoto Fujimura, generously on loan from the Waterfall Mansion & Gallery, and food by chef Gianluca Deiana Abis.

paquito d'rivera

Our first Musical Evening featured Paquito D'Rivera. The winner of fourteen GRAMMY awards,
Paqutio D'Rivera defies categorization. He is celebrated both for his artistry in Latin jazz and his
achievements as a classical composer. The National Endowment for the Arts has called D'Rivera
"the consummate multinational ambassador, creating and promoting a cross-culture of music that moves effortlessly among jazz, Latin, and Mozart."

Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour featuring a prosecco bar sponsored by Bellisima, Christie Brinkley's signature line of organic prosecco, followed by a captivating performance by Paquito D'Rivera. Mr. D'Rivera was joined for a few numbers by Special Music School 4th Grader, Santiago Del Curto, who is already forging his own promising career as a clarinetist.

Executive Director Lydia Kontos, Board of Trustees Chairman Rosalind Devon, Host Devorah Rose Krieger, and Special Music School Advisory Board Chairman Bethany Millard
