Held in beautiful homes around the city, Musical Evenings are cocktail receptions followed by intimate performances by world-renowned artists. Performers in past seasons have included violinist, Hilary Hahn, Kronos Quartet, flutist James Galway, pianist Lang Lang, violinist Gil Shaham, the Brentano String Quartet, clarinetist David Krakauer, and cellist Matt Haimovitz. All proceeds benefit the music program of Special Music School, New York City's only K-12 public school that teaches music as a core subject.
The 2014-15 Musical Evenings feature pianist Orli Shaham on December 2, 2014, clarinetist Anthony McGill on February 3, 2015, and violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Shai Wosner on April 16, 2015. For additional information about the series please contact the Development Office at 212 501 3350.
Our annual luncheon honors a friend of Kaufman Music Center while raising funds for student scholarships at Lucy Moses School. More than 200 need-based scholarships are awarded each year to students pursuing studies in music, theater and dance. The luncheon is followed by our annual Henry Schneider Scholarship Concert in Merkin Concert Hall, which showcases talented students from the scholarship program.
The 2015 Scholarship Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 and will honor an extraordinary educator and acclaimed performer: Roni Ben-Hur. Roni is the longtime Director of Lucy Moses School's Jazz Program. We were thrilled to pay tribute to Roni for his dedication to music education.
The 2015 Theater Wing Party was held on Sunday, January 25 and featured Steven Lutvak, celebrated composer and lyricist of the Tony Award winning Best Musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder. The evening also featured performances by Kevin Massey, from the Broadway cast and Sean Hartley, our host. One of Kaufman Music Center’s most beloved events, the annual Theater Wing Party took place at an exquisite Upper West Side home, complete with delicious cocktails, sumptuous hors d'œuvres and lively entertainment. The party culminated in a sing-a-long of Broadway favorites. Proceeds from the event supports the Center’s Musical Theater programs.
