Private Lessons
Private lessons with a supportive and motivating instructor are the best way to develop your skills. Our Young People's Division Manager will carefully match your child with a teacher best suited to her or his skill level, goals and schedule. Group instrument lessons are also available.

Early Childhood: Preschool Music & Dance Classes
Preschool music classes and dance classes at Lucy Moses School are friendly, full of laughter and discovery. Developmentally appropriate music and dance experiences for young children and their families help them grow musically through listening, singing, movement games and dances. These experiences lay the groundwork for continued study and provide a source for lifelong enjoyment of music and dance.

In this hands-on approach to music theory, children age 2.5 and up explore musical concepts such as meter, tempo, phrase, form and dynamics through rhythm games, creative movement, songs, stories, ear training, sight-singing and improvisation. Dalcroze is an ideal complement to instrumental lessons, or, for younger children, preparation for studying an instrument.

Suzuki & Dalzuki®
The Suzuki Method fosters a child's individual spirit and artistry in a social environment that develops discipline, enthusiasm and a love for music. Students attend both individual and group lessons and perform in frequent recitals and a spring festival. A parent attends all lessons and receives special instruction in order to be able to serve as the home teacher. For Violin and Cello Students, we offer a uniquely effective and innovative curriculum known as Dalzuki®, which combines SuzukI instruction with a Dalcroze music theory class.

Young Artist Program
Lucy Moses School's Young Artist Program offers highly-motivated music students in grades 6-12 a comprehensive and unique course of study, including weekly 90-minute private lessons, a two-hour theory and ear training class and an ensemble lesson, masterclasses and recitals. Other opportunities for advanced young musicians include orchestra and chamber and jazz ensembles

Advanced young instrumentalists can join a chamber group, flute or strings ensemble. Kaufman Music Center's Face the Music youth new music ensemble is an excellent opportunity for kids interested in new music and composition to perform with like-minded young musicians.

Summer String Fest
Talented young violinists, violists and cellists each August for an intensive week of music-making, fun and friendship. All-day sessions feature chamber orchestra or ensemble and sectional group instruction as well as masterclasses, workshops or performances by faculty and guest artists.

Theater for Young People
Theater classes offer an active, joyful exploration of the dramatic arts for children from age four to 18. Kids can bring their favorite stories to life in Theater Adventures, improvise scenes and stories in the high-enery Drama Club and perform in original musicals written just for them in our famous Summer Musical Theater Workshop, to name just a few options. Private lessons in acting or singing are also available.

Kids from pre-school through teens experience the joy of movement in ballet, modern, jazz and Broadway dance classes.

Join a chorus or learn the fundamentals of singing in a small group class.

Music Theory & Composition
Learn the fundamentals of music, or join ComposerCraft, an exciting group of  young composers in grades 6-8 who present their original compositions and work with professional ensembles.
