Internationally recognized as one of the world’s foremost quartets, the American String Quartet, with guest artist clarinetist Richard Stolzman, present Bright Sheng’s Concertina for Clarinet and String Quartet on Sunday, May 5, at Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Concert Hall with quartets in F major by Beethoven and by Ravel.  Critically acclaimed for its presentations of the complete quartets of Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, Bartok, and Mozart, the ASQ also champions contemporary music.  Many of today’s leading artists and composers seek out the Quartet for collaborations.  This season, the ASQ—Peter Winograd and Laurie Carney, Violin; Daniel Avshalomov, Viola; and Wolfram Koessel, Cello—is also collaborating with choreographer Mark Morris at the Ojai Festival.
