New York New Music Ensemble Presents Seminal Works for Piano + PercussionMonday, March 18 | 8:00pm |
Daniel Druckman, James Baker - percussion
Stephen Gosling, Steven Beck - piano
This concert presents two of the most important, ground-breaking works for piano and percussion in the repertory. Kontakte (1959-60) is perhaps Stockhausen's most famous work, and remains a marvel of sonic complexity. It's trailblazing use of electronics, spectral analysis, spatialization and the combination of acoustic and electronic sounds was a turning point in the history of 20th century music. Metagong (2008) is Charles Wuorinen's contribution to the growing canon of works inspired by Bartok's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. This epic, virtuosic work explores the myriad timbral capabilities and possibilities of this unique instrumental combination to stunning effect.
