New York Guitar Festival

Born at Merkin Concert Hall more than 10 years ago, the city-wide New York Guitar Festival explores the many aspects of the guitar’s musical personality through commissioning new work and supporting innovative, multi-media collaborations among outstanding artists. Described as “a veritable guitar orgy” by JazzTimes, the NYGF is hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer. All concerts are general admission.

Brazilian phenomenon Badi Assad and Los Angeles Guitar Quartet founder William Kanengiser have each invited four brilliant guests to help to represent the unique musical landscapes of North and South America. The afternoon session features music of Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States, performed by talented young players David Mozqueda, Colin Davin and Connie Sheu, as well as the brilliant Jorge Caballero and a final set by co-curator William Kanengiser.  The evening session will be a fiesta of South American rhythm and melody, with the Brasil Guitar Duo, the amazing virtuoso Romero Lubambo, Duo Siqueira/Lima, a set of contemporary masterworks by Jorge Caballero, and finishing up with the evocative stylings of incomparable co-curator Badi Assad. It promises to be a day of rich and exciting discoveries of the guitar in Las Americas!
