Luna Lab News

The 2018-19 Fellows will be announced soon!

Congratulations to Luna Lab co-founder Missy Mazzoli on being one of the first two women to be commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera! Read about it in the New York Times.

Collaborations

Luna Composition Lab continues to advocate for their alumni. Through the Luna Lab network, alumna Maya Johnson was commissioned by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra to compose a piece for their 2018-2019 season. She will be one of the youngest commission ever awarded by the SPCO. Recent alumni Michelle David and Violet Barnum are collaborating with the New York-based ensemble Contemporaneous. David’s piece premiered at National Sawdust, and Barnum’s piece will premiere next year.

"We cannot live in a world that is not our own, in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not a home. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening, to use our own voice, to see our own light."   - Hildegard von Bingen, 10th century composer & philosopher
