Christina Nelson is currently in 10th grade at Special Music School, where she plays French horn. Her father is a jazz pianist, so music runs in the family. In addition to her music curriculum, she loves math and English classes at SMS. Right now, she plans to pursue a career in medicine and dreams of attending either Columbia or NYU.
She says, “SMS is such a unique community. Because it is so small, I feel like I have a relationship with all of my teachers and this is very special. They are all able to care about us individually.
“I also like that everybody that is a student here has something in common – their love of music. All of the students here are so welcoming...everybody here is so supportive and kind, and to be part of this community is amazing.”
