Meet Margaret Olko, Vocalist & Special Music School 12th Grader

DSC0936

Margaret Olko is a rising senior at Special Music School, where she is a vocal major and student leader. She lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Her family immigrated to the US from Poland, and she speaks fluent Polish.

Though Margaret played piano when she was younger, she became passionate about music when she began singing with her church choir when she was 11. At SMS, she appreciates the warm community and the one-on-one connection with her teachers.

Margaret says: “I think that Special Music School has offered me so much. I have learned how to respect people regardless of what they do or look like. I feel that because of SMS, I can help others that cannot have the same experience as me, through my experience."

After graduation, Margaret hopes to attend college in Europe to study music therapy, and use her talents and skills to help children with special needs. We are very proud of Margaret's commitment to making a difference through music.

Please help Margaret and other Special Music School students grow by supporting the Fund for Music Education today.
