As we prepare for our annual Gala, we are proud to share the story of one of the amazing young people who is studying at Kaufman Music Center, thanks to friends like you.

Rehanna Bertram is a senior at Special Music School. The daughter of Caribbean immigrants, she was born and raised in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Every day, she commutes two hours each way for school.

At Special Music School, Rehanna participates in the choir, takes private voice lessons, and takes music theory and history classes. She has had many special experiences – including performing with Gospel star Kirk Franklin on The View with the Special Music School Chorus during her freshman year. Reflecting on the experience, she says “this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that would not have been available anywhere else.”

Rehanna loves music, and her dream is to become a cardiothoracic surgeon who uses music to console patients and improve the surgical process. Rehanna is working hard towards this goal, taking advanced academic classes, including AP Calculus. Next year, she will attend Baruch College, CUNY.

Support the Center and students like Rehanna by taking part in this year's Gala which takes place on June 3, 2019. Contributions and tickets go directly to Kaufman Music Center’s educational programs which will transform more than 4,000 young lives during the 2019-20 year.
