Dance Camp introduces girls and boys to several forms of dance, without the time commitment of a full-day camp program. Students participate in classes in ballet, jazz and Broadway, hip hop and lyrical. We will prepare a short dance in each style and present a performance to family and friends at the end of the program. This is a great opportunity to take classes in several styles of dance, and especially helpful if students are trying to choose a class for the fall and are not sure which style will fit them best!
Instructor: Chris Graham
Explore various techniques for playing drums from African and Latin-American cultures! Build communication and listening skills while improvising and interacting rhythmically in a drumming ensemble. Final performance on July 21.
Instructor: Lynelle Smith
Auditions are May 6 & 13. Kaufman Music Center's Summer String Fest brings together talented young violinists, violists and cellists each August for an intensive week of music-making, fun and friendship. All-day sessions feature chamber orchestra or ensemble and sectional group instruction as well as masterclasses, workshops or performances by faculty and guest artists. The week concludes with a final performance featuring all String Fest participants in Merkin Concert Hall. 2018 repertoire: Handel’s Overture to “Messiah,” Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings “Elegie,” Bloch’s Concerto Grosso No. 1 “Prelude” and Debussy’s “Cakewalk.”
