Wednesday | March 20 2013 | 5 pm
Moderated by Ecstatic Music Festival Curator Judd Greenstein.
This event is FREE.
The genre-defying composer Joseph C. Phillips, Jr. will talk about his 2013 Ecstatic Music Festival collaboration with the globally-inspired vocalist/composer Imani Uzuri. Their March 16 Ecstatic Music Festival performance included an original multi-voice and multi-instrument musical suite by Uzuri performed by Philllips’s 21-person ensemble Numinous as well as the premiere of Changing Same, a six-movement composition by Phillips. A sonic “memory book,” Changing Same fuses various artistic and cultural influences into one compelling vision. Find out more about Joseph's concert.
Enjoy a glass of wine or a beer while gaining insights into the artists' creative process as well as their highly original explorations of the vibrant post-genre musical landscape.
This talk will be followed at 7:30 pm by an Ecstatic Music Festival performance with Steven Mackey & Rinde Eckert with Big Farm & JACK Quartet. Tickets sold separately.
Beer and wine will be available for purchase at the talks and concerts.
