Ron Carter, Double Bass
Among the most original, prolific and influential bassists in jazz history, Ron Carter is a two-time Grammy winner and a member of the classic and acclaimed Miles Davis Quintet from 1963 to 1968. With an inquisitive, searching mind to match his unparalleled artistry, Mr. Carter leads an eight-member ensemble interpreting classics of Bach and Ravel as well as Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You.” Using rhythmic, melodic and other sonic devices specific to American culture, he demonstrates how music can be transformed by place and time. Mr. Carter will talk with Mr. McKnight about his long career as a recording artist, composer, arranger, educator and author.

Leon Fleisher, Piano
A famous child prodigy who played with the New York Philharmonic at age 16, Leon Fleisher has long since established himself as one of the world’s premier classical pianists. Celebrated for his revelatory and inspiring performances as both a soloist and conductor, Mr. Fleisher will bring to his conversation with Mr. McKnight the insight, warmth and humanity that make his concerts and master classes such remarkable experiences for musicians and audiences alike.

Carol Wincenc: 50th Anniversary – It’s Golden!
Hailed as “Queen of the Flute” (New York Magazine), Grammy nominee Carol Wincenc has delighted audiences for nearly five decades with her signature charismatic, high virtuosity and deeply heartfelt musicality. She’ll celebrate her 50-year career with two world premieres: Robert Sirota’s DANCING WITH the ANGELS performed with her trio, Les Amies (which includes New York Philharmonic principals Cynthia Phelps, viola and Nancy Allen, harp), and a new work by Sato Matsui with pianist Brian Wagorn. The program also includes Messiaen’s Le Merle Noir and Bach’s Sonata in B minor for Flute and Piano.
