Kaufman Music Center's Face the Music is the country's only youth ensemble dedicated to studying and performing music by living composers.

Face the Music & Luna Lab at Roulette
Roulette (509 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn)
Face the Music performs the world premieres of new works by teen composers selected to participate in the second year of Luna Composition Lab, a new program for young women composers noted in The New Yorker, The New York Times, WQXR, Huffpo and MusicalAmerica. The program also includes works by established composers.

Face the Music at The Jazz Gallery
Workshop on the Music Systems of Anthony Braxton, led by Taylor Ho Bynum

Presented in partnership with the Tri-Centric Foundation
Long-time collaborator Taylor Ho Bynum presents an overview and introduction to the work of the legendary composer/conceptualist Anthony Braxton. Open to musicians of all levels and any interested friendly experiencers in the general public. This event is part of Braxton75, a two-year initiative of the Tri-Centric Foundation leading up to the composer's 75th birthday in 2020, funded in part by the Robert D. Bielecki Foundation. Face the Music Performs the Music of Anthony Braxton
Conducted by Aakash Mittal, with special guests Kyoko Kitamura, Anne Rhodes, and Carl Testa
Presented in partnership with the Tri-Centric Foundation
The Jazz Gallery
(1160 Broadway, 5th fl., Manhattan)
Face the Music's Samurai Mama Big Band, Sound Bite Orchestra, and Advanced Jazz Project explore the compositions of one of the most revered figures in contemporary improvised music, Anthony Braxton. Under the leadership of conductor Aakash Mittal, and joined by special guests and long-time Braxton collaborators Kyoko Kitamura (voice), Anne Rhodes (voice), and Carl Testa (bass and electronics), these young musicians will perform music ranging from Braxton's Creative Orchestra Music of the 1970s to his Ghost Trance Music from the 1990s. The program includes a new work by Face the Music member-composer Graeme Buehrer. This event is part of Braxton75, a two-year initiative of the Tri-Centric Foundation leading up to the composer's 75th birthday in 2020, funded in part by the Robert D. Bielecki Foundation.
