HEALTH & SAFETY MEASURES FOR MERKIN HALL AUDIENCES

We look forward to welcoming you back to Kaufman Music Center, where your health and safety remain our biggest priority as we begin the fall season. We will continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control, New York State and New York City as circumstances continue to change. To ensure the safety of our community, the following protective measures will be in place at all Merkin Hall performances:

  • All guests must wear a mask properly at all times while in the building.
  • Audience members will need to be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO approved vaccine and must show proof of vaccination along with a government-issued photo ID.
  • Audience members under the age of 12 (under the age of 5 beginning March 1, 2022) or patrons who are not able to be vaccinated due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief must show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time.

HEALTH & SAFETY MEASURES AT LUCY MOSES SCHOOL

This fall, all programs are offered in person; many programs also include an online option.

The following outlines the actions we are implementing based on CDC, New York State and the City of New York guidelines and recommendations:

  • Starting September 10, proof of vaccination must be shown by all adults age 18 and older (including students, parents/caregivers, faculty, and staff) to enter the building.
  • Everyone who enters the building has their temperature taken at the door with a touchless thermometer and is required to fill out a COVID-19 Exposure Form.
  • Masks or facial coverings must be worn at all times while in the building.
  • Proper social distancing must be maintained.
  • Air filtration has been enhanced to MERV 13 in the HVAC systems, and air purifiers have been added to the studios used by large group classes.
  • Group classes take place in the largest studios.
  • Wind/brass/voice lessons take place in the largest studios.
  • The number of people in each studio, each floor, and the full building is limited.
  • Specific traffic patterns are used for staircases and the number of people in each of the elevators is limited.
  • Hand sanitizer and piano-safe wipes are available throughout the building.  Cleaning and sanitizing practices are increased.

Rehearsal Studios follow Merkin Hall guidelines above.

HEALTH & SAFETY MEASURES FOR FACE THE MUSIC

This year Face the Music will hold in-person rehearsals, now on Saturdays at Kaufman Music Center’s main building (129 W 67th St). Individual lessons may be arranged for in-person or online instruction.

As we prioritize the well-being of our students, coaches, staff, guest artists, and organization, our primary concern is for everyone’s health and safety. All programs at Kaufman Music Center are closely monitoring city, state and federal guidelines and recommendations, as well as input gathered from peer institutions. Due to the nature of frequently changing regulations and conditions, official Covid-19 measures will be updated on this document and communicated directly via email to the Face the Music community.

All Face the Music Students will be expected to follow Kaufman Music Center policy outlined above and should plan for the following Face the Music protocol:

  • Winds/Brass are expected to have facemasks with mouthpiece holes and bell covers.
  • 3’ spacing will be practiced in all group settings.
  • Students may lift masks to stay hydrated during rehearsals; snacks may not be eaten in rehearsal spaces. Please use KMC designated areas or go outside during breaks to eat.
