Luna Lab Applications Open!
Applications for the 2021–2022 season of Luna Lab are now open. Apply by September 15 for a year of mentorship with an established female, non-binary, or gender nonconforming composer. This season, in addition to our established Fellowship program, Luna Lab will now offer a composition course, Adventures in Sound: Beginning Composition. This two-semester course is designed for students who might not be ready for a Luna Lab Fellowship but are interested in exploring how to create music and are just beginning their compositional journey. Luna Lab with Oregon Symphony Call for Scores
Female, non-binary, or gender nonconforming composers in the Oregon or SW Washington area are eligible to apply for Luna Composition Lab and The Oregon Symphony's 2021–2022 program. Applications are due by September 7, 2021. Learn more. 


Luna Composition Lab Performance at the Bergen International Festival
Works by Luna Composition Lab alumni Ebun Oguntola (2019-20), Olivia Bennett (2019-20), and Madeline Clara Cheng (2019-20) will be performed by the BIT20 Ensemble at the Bergen International Festival in Norway on June 5. The performance will be broadcast online on June 7 at 2 PM (Eastern). Learn more. 

World Premieres by the 2020-21 Luna Composition Lab Fellows
Luna Composition Lab presented Solar Flare, an evening featuring world premieres by the Luna Lab 2020-21 Fellows, on April 27 at 7 PM. Watch the virtual performance on Facebook or YouTube.  

World Premieres by the 2019-20 Luna Composition Lab Fellows
Luna Composition Lab and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra teamed up to present the world premieres of eight works by the Luna Lab 2019-20 Fellows plus participants in Luna Lab with LACO. Watch the free virtual event here.  

FALL 2020

2020-21 Master Class Series
Throughout the 2020-21 season Luna Composition Lab Fellows participated in virtual masterclasses with flutist and composer Valerie Coleman, composer, conductor, and educator Tania León, composer inti figgis-vizueta, and the International Contemporary Ensemble, among others. These classes were also open to Honorable Mentions, applicants, and the broader community as auditors. 2020-21 Fellows Announced
Luna Composition Lab is proud to announce the 2020-21 Fellows. The six teens range in age from 14 to 17 and hail from New York City, Los Angeles and Harrisonburg, VA. They are: Vera Gjaja (age 15), Alisha Heng (age 17), Marina Zurita McKinnon (age 16), Jordan Millar (age 14), Zola Saadi-Klein (age 17) and Azalea Twining (age 14). Honorable Mentions were awarded to Oluwanimofe Akinyanmi, Anika Fuloria, Ella Kaale, Haeon Lee, Peyton Nelesen and Sofia Ouyang. Meet the Fellows. 


Luna Lab with LACO Participants Announced 
Luna Composition Lab and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra are proud to announce the first members of the new LACO/Luna Lab partnership. The 2019-20 Luna Lab with LACO members range in age from 16 to 18 and hail from all over Southern California. They are: Anya Lagman (age 18), Chloe Villamayor (age 17) and Emily Webster-Zuber (age 16). Learn more.

JUNE 2021

The 2020-21 class of Luna Lab Fellows have been commissioned by Intersection's LISTEN project where they will be creating solo works for young audiences. Stay tuned for the premieres and read more about this project.

Ebun Oguntola (2019-20) was featured on From the Top Show 401: Juneteenth Special. Her work work The Dimensions, which was written during her Luna Lab Fellowship, was performed. Listen to the episode.


KiMani Bridges (2019-20), Olivia Bennett (2019-20) and Tiffany Cuaresma (2018-19) were commissioned by Musaics of the Bay to write for their "Stay-at-Home Symposium." KiMani's work, "MidNight" was premiered by clarinetist Michelle Hromin and inspired by Susana Aldanondo's painting, "Special." Watch the performance here. Olivia's piece, "Free Verse No. 2" was premiered by bassist Tim Rinehart and inspired by Ori Aboutboul's painting "Memory: Direction." Watch the performance here. Tiffany's piece will be premiered soon.

Yuri Lee (2018-19) was named as a semi-finalist in thd student division of The American Prize in Composition. Congratulations, Yuri! Read more. 


Congratulations to Madeline Clara Cheng (2019-20) and Emily Singleton (Honorable Mention 2019-20), who were awarded the ICEBERG New Music Young Composer Awards for 2020-21. Read more. 

Carolina Bragg (2017-18) was featured on From the Top Show 394 where she spoke about her work as a composer and they featured her string quartet Bird of Paradise. Listen to the episode.


Helen Feng (Honorable Mention 2019-20), Joanna McDonald (2018-19), Tiffany Cuaresma (2018-19) and Olivia Bennett (2019-20) had a mini reunion at Rice University, where Tiffany is currently a first year student and the others are interviewing.
