Led by the JACK Quartet, hailed by the New York Times as being “our leading new-music foursome,” the Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet, and the University of Iowa’s Elizabeth Oakes, the July String Workshop explores the creative process in music through seminars, lessons and projects tailored for each participant. Performers often focus on the fundamentals of intonation, rhythm, harmony and phrasing. But we can all gain clearer knowledge of how these things connect. Whether we are playing Haydn or new avant-garde music, we can harness our understanding of various intonation options, learn to tackle complicated rhythms, play with total intention, and effectively study a musical score. Through this program, we aim to strengthen our understanding of music and continue our growth as 21st century musicians.

This intensive program is presented by Kaufman Music Center, as an extension of the JACK Quartet’s year-long residency, and in partnership with the New England Conservatory.
