Young Artist Program Student Notes - Spring 2012

Jesse Murray (9th grade) won First Prize for the performance of a work by an Italian Composer in the Cremona International String Competition on July 23, 2011 (his 14th birthday). He also was awarded an honorable mention in the overall competition and was the only participant to receive two awards.

For children looking for a perfect way to hone their string skills this summer, registration for Lucy Moses School's Summer String Fest is currently open! The program features chamber orchestra and sectional group instruction, and will culminate with a performance in Merkin Concert Hall on Friday, August 17th.

NEW dance classes just added for Summer 2012!


Lucy Moses School has just opened four more dance classes for the Summer 2012 session!  In our dance program, children experience the joy of movement in a fun group setting.  Students receive a strong introduction to technique while building flexibility and improvisational skills.

The Lucy Moses School Spring Dance Recitals feature students from dance classes for ages 4-5 and older.  These recitals in Merkin Concert Hall give students a chance to share what they have worked on during the school year and help build performance skills.  Each recital is professionally recorded and DVDs are available for purchase.

This past weekend, composer Rhys Chatham teamed up with Brooklyn experimental group Oneida for a collaboration at the Ecstatic Music Festival. The performance was reviewed by Steve Smith in today's New York Times, where Smith remarked, "the bulk of the crowd was transfixed... the effect was undeniably ecstatic."
