Summer String Fest


Watch the 2019 Summer String Fest performance in Merkin Hall.

This summer, the focus of the festival is chamber music and small ensembles! An intensive week of music-making, friendship and fun! Advanced violinists, violists and cellists age 10-23 are invited to join us for a week of chamber music and small ensembles, workshops, performances and a final concert in Merkin Hall.

Auditions: May 2 and May 9 (Cello), May 5 and May 12 (Violin and Viola)

Register before April 1 for early bird tuition of $450!

Optional: A 50% discount is available for up to 5 individual lessons with Kaufman Music Center's faculty prior to the Festival for all String Fest registered students.  Tuition for the 5-day program includes all coachings, classes, and activities.  Students are required to bring their own brown bag lunches.

Required Audition Repertoire - Junior Advanced

  • Any work at the level of Bach concerto in A minor or above - violin/viola
  • Sammartini/ Berteau Sonata in G major - cello
  • 3 octave scales

Required Audition Repertoire - Advanced

  • 2 contrasting pieces or movements of an advanced concerto
  • 3 octave scales and arpeggios
  • Movement of unaccompanied Bach


We plan to hold Summer String Fest in person for Summer 2021!
Tuition is $550 and application fee is $25 - register before April 1 for early bird tuition of $450!
