Lynelle Smith

Kaufman Music Center

Lynelle Smith holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Performance Diploma in Violin from The Juilliard School. Her principle teachers were Dorothy DeLay, Masao Kawasaki, and Paul Kantor. She has participated in master classes and (or) coachings with Itzhak Perlman, Dorothy DeLay, Joel Smirnoff, Eugene Lanier, Walter Trampler and others.

Lynelle is passionate about teaching and currently pursues this career in New York City at Kaufman Music Center. Her students have won numerous competitions and have pursued further studies at The Juilliard School and other prestigious institutions. She is on the faculty at both Kaufman’s Special Music School and  Lucy Moses School, and served as the Artistic Coordinator for Kaufman Music Center’s Summer Stringfest from 2009-2019. She also served as Chamber Music coach at Kaufman’s Summerfest in 2023.

Lynelle is on the violin faculty of the Cremona International Music Academy in Italy and often teaches there for the summer festival. At the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music in New York, Lynelle holds the title of Pedagogy Facilitator. She also acted as a violin coach for the Miramax film “Music of the Heart” starring Meryl Streep, who portrays Roberta Guaspari, the founder of Opus 118 Harlem School of Music.
