Part of the Ecstatic Music series
The Grammy-nominated wind quintet collaborates with “trailblazing” (Los Angeles Times) composer Andy Akiho on the world premiere of his new work, BeLoud, BeLoved, BeLonging. Inspired by the sound of 2019 protests by immigrant detainees at the Metropolitan Detention Center, the piece has been workshopped with a group of incarcerated young men at Rikers Island. The program also includes Afro Blue by Mongo Santamaría arranged by Valerie Coleman, De Memorias by Tania León, Seen by Nathalie Joachim and Cane by Jason Moran.
$15 student tickets are available by phone or in person. Call the box office at 212 501 3330.
