Trumpeter ÉGO (Eganam Segbefia) began his professional career in 2013, performing in New York City’s parks and subways. From these early beginnings, his artistry has grown to encompass performances in distinguished venues and at events for audiences ranging from local communities to international dignitaries.
This program, curated in collaboration with pianist and artistic director Dr. Tianyu Tina Deng, traces the trajectory of that journey. The first half presents a survey of trumpet repertoire from the Baroque through the 20th century, reflecting ÉGO’s classical training and technical foundation. The second half highlights reimagined classics and cross-genre selections—many drawn from suggestions offered by listeners during his years of busking—thus embodying the dialogue between performer and community that has shaped his artistic identity.
Together, these works form a musical tapestry that underscores themes of artistic metamorphosis, cultural exchange, and the illuminating role of performance within the urban soundscape of New York City.
