The New York City Master Chorale’s entire 2022-2023 season is devoted to the celebration and exploration of Latin American choral music, including masterworks from Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Cuba. We begin with the impressive Misa a Buenos Aires (“MisaTango”) by Martín Palmeri and pieces by Fernando Meruja, Dorival Caymmi, and Cláudio Santoro in November 2022. The MisaTango's emotional intensity blends sophisticated choral writing with the rhythms and passion of Argentinian tango music, all within the unexpected context of a traditional sacred mass. We are eager to share these richly lyrical lines, brilliant mezzo-soprano solo and virtuosic solo bandoneon, and collaboration with other talented instrumentalists. The additional Brazilian and Argentinian pieces offer unforgettable harmonies and lively melodies about daily life combined with varied dance-rhythms and stunning scoring for string orchestra. Thank you for joining the New York City Master Chorale for this exciting performance and the season ahead!
