Pianists from around the world come together for the 6th NTD International Piano Competition (NIPC) in an effort to revive the glory of masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. Traditional music may have been forgotten over the years but it is the kind of music—the kind of art—that no matter where you come from, or what kind of music you like, it resonates with us all with its pure universality. It is something old, something forgotten, but something at once recalled. Goodness, authenticity, and beauty in art has the power to cause us to recover the deepest layers of ourselves.
What makes the NIPC more unique is the special commissioned composition “The Sacred Journey” which will be played by semifinalists on Oct. 31st. Just as its precedents, this year’s commissioned composition is also arranged from a music piece by D. F., the artistic director of Shen Yun Performing Arts, a world renowned music and dance company that has led the way in the revival of traditional Chinese culture through the arts. Inheriting the characteristics of the Music of Shen Yun, the “The Sacred Journey” features the perfect harmony of Eastern and Western classical music.
