Face the Music Conducting

Individual Lessons Program: Any teen musician who has auditioned for Face the Music may be eligible to sign up for lessons in Composition, Songwriting, Electronic Music, Improvisation, or Conducting. Individual Lessons are offered in Cycles: Fall, Winter, and Spring. In each Cycle students receive eight 40-minute private lessons weekly on Face the Music days. Tuition for individual lessons is $450 per Cycle for Face the Music Member Students, or $500 per Cycle for Non-Member Students.

Previous experience in an individual lesson area is not required!

Conducting lessons begin a life-long journey of building a physical language that communicates well-formed musical ideas. In lessons, students will focus on the fundamentals of technique such as executing beat patterns, cueing musicians, and expressing articulation. They will also learn about the creative process of imagining the sounds they want to hear from an ensemble. Conducting is all about collaboration, so the building blocks students gain in their study will not only help them lead a group, but will also give them valuable insights they will use in guiding musical projects, playing in ensembles, and composing for fellow musicians in the future.
