Chamber Music Associates is a unique and flexible chamber music program where participants can explore new repertoire each week or bring back recurring pieces to build over time. The first semester often leans toward exploration, while the second semester encourages musicians to settle on a work to prepare for an optional year-end recital.
CMA offers several workshop formats as well as open studios for self-organized ensembles:
- Piano Trio Rooms: Two rooms are staffed by professional string players. Both can be booked in advance in 20-minute intervals. One room is coached, operating as a public master class where other participants are welcome to observe and learn. The second room is non-coached, ideal for focused rehearsal. Quartets with a professional violist are also available, and pianists may explore two-piano or piano four-hand repertoire.
- Strings Workshop: A flexible format for string players to form ensembles of varying sizes — from trios and quartets to quintets or larger — depending on the number of participants. These groups are supported by a cello coach, and pianists are also welcome to join to collaborate on repertoire.
- Winds Workshop: A parallel structure for woodwind players, with a coach and frequent opportunities to collaborate with pianists.
- Multi-Purpose Rooms: Open spaces available to sign up with fellow participants and experiment with your own ensemble combinations.
Musicians are encouraged to bring music they would like to play (all parts), or to draw on our extensive chamber library. Part of the joy of CMA is the freedom to connect with peers, discover new repertoire, and create unique chamber music experiences each week.
Faculty coaches include Max Barros, Sarah Schoeffler and Suzy Schwartz.
