Born in Moscow, Anna Khanina began her musical education at the age of five. In 1996, she graduated with honors from the prestigious Gnessin School of Music in Moscow. Her further studies include master’s degrees from both the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow and the University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hannover, Germany, as well as a Performance Diploma from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. In 2014, Ms. Khanina earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she was a full-scholarship student of Gilbert Kalish.
Ms. Khanina’s performing career spans Asia, Europe, and North and South America. She regularly appears as a soloist and chamber musician at major concert venues and festivals. Her performances have been presented at 92nd Street Y Kaufmann Concert Hall, Symphony Space, the Staller Center for the Arts, and Yamaha Piano Salon in New York, as well as Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts, Pianoforte Chicago, and Ganz Hall in Chicago.
Her performances have been broadcast live on WFMT Chicago, The Voice of Music radio from the Jerusalem Music Centre, WQXR New York’s McGraw Young Artists Showcase, and WIOX Radio.
Ms. Khanina’s numerous awards include prizes at the Val Tidone International Piano Competition, the Second International Piano Competition in Panama, the Seventh International Competition Ciutat de Carlet in Valencia, the Grieg Competition in Oslo, and the Classica Nova Competition in Hannover.
Alongside her performing career, Ms. Khanina remains a dedicated teacher. She is currently on the faculty of 92nd Street and Lucy Moses School at Kaufman Music Center. Her students have performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and have successfully participated in numerous national competitions.
