Large Ensemble

The Face the Music large ensemble is somewhere between a big band and a chamber orchestra (call it a bandestra?), and explores repertoire that skates across different genres, all of which is by living composers, including Face the Music students. The large ensemble meets every week for two shorter sessions, each an hour and a half, with its two directors. Students work on improvisation skills, sight-reading different types of scores and charts, and ensemble skills. The large ensemble will perform around New York City this season at various venues including Merkin Hall, the Jazz Gallery, and Riverside Park. A highlight of the 2023-24 season will be a collaboration with composer-performer and Artist-in-Residence Angélica Negrón, which will culminate in a performance at Merkin Hall and a recording project.

Tuition for large ensemble for the 2023-24 season is $800. Special Music School and Lucy Moses School students get a 25% tuition discount.
