Host Rob Kapilow takes you from his early days in 1930s Kansas City and Chicago at the height of the swing era to his later success into the 1980s. Hear the evolution of Count Basie’s style from spontaneous head arrangements – parts worked out by improvisation and memory – to his sophisticated later arrangements through popular hits including “Jumpin’ at the Woodside,” “Lil’ Darlin” and “April in Paris.”
