Q: Where is Kaufman Music Camp & Retreat located?
A:  The camp is located in beautiful Warwick, NY, just 90 minutes from midtown Manhattan. The campus features a beautiful lakefront setting complete with a main lodge and multiple common areas, an indoor theater, an outdoor theater, classrooms, housing accommodations, pickleball courts and more. 

Q: How do I get there?
A: The camp is located at 46 Bowen Road, Warwick NY 10990. Driving from Manhattan, it is accessible via NY-9A N, Interstate 95 S/NJ Tpke S, then Rte 4 W, NJ 208 N, then merge onto I-287 S. Take exit 57 to Ringwood and follow directions to arrive at the campus.

Q: Can I get there by public transportation?
A: For participants who are not local to Warwick, New Jersey Transit buses #196 and #197 provide service from New York City to Warwick, NY. You will need to arrange your own transportation from the bus terminal to our campus. 

Q: What is the town of Warwick like?
A: The Village of Warwick is a quaint town with coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and retail shops. It is not within walking distance to our campus, but a quick drive will get you there to enjoy local offerings!

Q: If I am currently a student at Kaufman Music Center’s Lucy Moses School, do I need to pay the camp registration fee again?
A: No. If you are a current 2023-24 Lucy Moses School student, and have already paid your yearly registration fee, you will not be charged an additional fee.

Q: Is financial aid available?
A: Limited financial aid is available for families in need of financial assistance. Applicants must submit a detailed financial application by April 1. Click here to download the application.

Q: Do I have to audition for any of the camps?
A:  We do not require participants to audition for any of the camps, but we will ask for a video example of playing for certain camps (Summer Piano, Summer Strings, Adult Piano, Adult Chamber, Adult Jazz) for class placement purposes only. We ask that a video be submitted by May 1, 2024.


DAY CAMPS FOR KIDS


Q: Is there an overnight option for kids?
A:  For Summer 2024, we are currently offering only day camp options for kids. The only exception is the Family on Stage Weekend where adults stay in our accommodations with their children.

Q: Will snacks and drinks be provided? What about lunch?
A: Snacks and water will be provided for all campers both in half-day and full-day sessions. Full-day campers will need to bring a bag lunch that does not need refrigeration.

Q: What kind of recreational activities are planned during the day for kids?
A: Our camp staff is currently creating a fun roster of supervised activities which will include arts & crafts, outdoor time on the beautiful campus, and much more to be announced at a later date.

Q: How do I know I am the right level for Summer Strings or Summer Piano day camps?
A: These programs are designed for intermediate through advanced levels. For the Strings Program, violinists, violists and cellists should be able to play two-octave major scales and have started to work on minor scales. Intermediate level corresponds to Suzuki book 3 and New York State School Music Association level 2. Examples: Violin, Viola, Cello.

For the Piano Program, intermediate level is New York State School Music Association level 3 and Suzuki Piano Book 4. Example

Overnight CAMPs for Adults & Families


Q: What do accommodations look like for the overnight retreats?
A:  For overnight stays, Kaufman Music Camp & Retreat offers rustic accommodations that include both private apartments and cozy cabins. Each accommodation has air-conditioned bedrooms, queen or single beds, with a single bathroom. Amenities such as sheets, pillows, blankets and towels are included with your stay. Check-in will be scheduled for late afternoon/early evening on arrival days.

Q: I don’t need room & board, can I attend these programs as a day camper?
A: Yes! Each program for adults and families offers participants the option to attend without room & board. On each class page for adult programs, you’ll see two buttons – click the black button called “Sign Up” to register for classes only.

Q: Will snacks and drinks be provided? What about meals?
A: For participants who elect to stay in our accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in common areas of the campus. In addition, snacks and water will be provided for all participants.

Q: What kind of recreational activities are planned during the day?
A: We are currently creating a roster of activities with our staff that will include social gatherings, outdoor time on the beautiful campus lawn and access to our pickleball courts, and much more to be announced at a later date.

Q: Do I need a car? Is there parking available?
A: If you are staying overnight and would like to leave campus, it is highly recommended to have a car. Parking is available right outside your accommodation and just outside of the common areas of the campus.


WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY


At Kaufman Music Camp & Retreat, we understand that plans can change. For withdrawals made prior to June 1, a full refund will be issued, minus the non-refundable registration fee. Cancellations made after June 1 will be subject to a 100% cancellation fee. The same policy applies to housing withdrawals. We value your commitment and encourage you to reach out to our team if you have any concerns or special circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
